Teresa’s Story - Growing in Confidence after attend the Care Center's ESL Classes
We are proud to recognize Teresa Villareal, an outstanding ESL student who recently completed Level 5, as our Student of the Year. Teresa's dedication shines through in her excellent attendance and consistent hard work on homework. She shared that the class has been a valuable learning experience, and her commitment went far beyond the certificate requirement for her class level.
Although Teresa was a Level 5 ESL student last year, she took the initiative to revisit the other level courses using the Learning Upgrade Phone App. She requested access to all lower level Engish courses , eager to review and reinforce her skills. Her determination paid off—she successfully completed every lesson and earned certificates for all ESL levels on the phone app. Congratulations, Teresa, on your remarkable achievement!
Alex’s Story - From Camper to Volunteer
Alex Tran has had the privilege of serving the Fort Bend Care Center for three consecutive years. In 2021, when the Fort Bend Care Center launched a summer camp at Fort Bend Community Church, Alex experienced firsthand the love and care the center extends to the community. He believes that the center’s focus on building community is truly empowering, as it has profoundly empowered him.
As a camper during the camp's inaugural year, Alex learned a valuable lesson from his leaders: the importance of showing love and being grateful for everything around him. The following year, he had the opportunity to serve the Care Center. Guided by one of his leaders, who instilled in him the values of humility and service, Alex began his journey as a dedicated volunteer.
Through his time with the Fort Bend Care Center, Alex has learned to work hard, appreciate his efforts, and serve humbly and diligently, all for the good of the community. He has had a deeply rewarding experience working with those in need - whether it is financial, physical, or emotional need.
Alex is immensely grateful for the Fort Bend Care Center's commitment to caring for their community and extends his heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to be a part of their mission. Watch Alex share his perspective from his own words in the video below.
Parveen's Story - From Student to Tutor
Parveen Abbasi was an ESL student at the Care Center ESL program who had completed all the levels in three years, building her language skills tremendously during that time. With her experience, Parveen has become one of our ESL tutors for the level one class.
This is what Parveen shares about her experience:
“I started Care Center ESL class in 2018. I successfully completed level 2 to 5 in three years. Before, I always depended on my husband and my kids to communicate for me. The Care Center gave me some learning supplies, books and learning upgrade phone app so I can also study at home. Now I can make doctor’s appointments. I can explain my health concerns and explain what I need in the store. Learning upgrade phone app is my favorite app for learning. Most of the time I make notes and sometimes I take screen shots so I can study later. I am now a tutor in Level 1 class. I want to be a teacher. I want to say - Thank you, Care Center! Because of you, I can achieve my dream.”
